Giuliae Marco
Two families, one terrace above the water, and an unreasonable number of lemons. You are warmly invited to Maiori for the weekend of the twelfth of June.
How it happened, briefly
Marco was working a season in London and hated it. Giulia was there for a conference she left early. They met in the queue for the wrong bus, both convinced it was the right one, and spent an hour lost together before either admitted it.
Nine years, two cities and one small dog later, Marco proposed on the terrace at his grandmother's house in Maiori — the same terrace where we will be feeding you dinner. Nonna Rosa, who is ninety-one, considers this her personal achievement.
We would love you to make a weekend of it. The coast is best on a Friday, before the boats arrive.
Cerimonia
Chiesa di Santa Maria a Mare, Maiori. Eighty-two steps up from the piazza — wear something you can climb in.
Aperitivo
Terrazza del Limoneto. Spritz, sfogliatella, and the good part of the afternoon light.
Cena
Long tables under the lemon trees. Six courses, no seating chart beyond 'sit near someone new'.
Ballo
Music until the neighbours object, which historically has been around three.
Maiori, Salerno
Fly to Naples, then the coast road — an hour and a half of hairpins that everybody photographs and nobody enjoys driving. The ferry from Salerno is slower, calmer and considerably prettier.
We have held rooms at three hotels in the town, all within ten minutes on foot of the church. Details are in your invitation; ask us if you would rather stay in Amalfi proper.
