Seven autumns
We met the week Hana moved back from Sapporo, on a train platform where neither of us was going anywhere in particular. Seven autumns later, we are asking the people who carried us there to stand under the maples with us for one afternoon.
There will not be a great deal of ceremony beyond the ceremony itself. Come, eat slowly, and stay until the light goes.
Shinzen shiki
The Shinto ceremony at Kamigamo Jinja. Please arrive by 10:40; the procession begins promptly and the gate is closed once it does.
Kaiseki lunch
Nine courses in the garden room, served in the order the season asks for. Sake poured by both families.
Tea & farewell
Matcha and higashi on the veranda as the light drops behind the maples.
Dress
Formal, muted. White is reserved for the bride; please avoid it entirely.
Gifts
Goshugi in a plain envelope, or nothing at all. Your presence is genuinely enough.
Travel
Bus 4 from Kyoto Station to Kamigamo-jinja-mae, forty minutes. Taxis are scarce after dusk.
